It seems there is hardly a day goes by that one of the UK’s major retailers or food manufacturers has a product recall or alert for mislabeling of food under the newEU Food Information for Consumers Regulation, launched on 13 December 2014.  See more. So what chance do small restaurants and busineeses have when purchasing their ingredients from their local Cash and Carrys or Wholesalers . It strikes me that the food industry as a whole has a lot of work to catch up with clear and concise labelling.

Marks & Spencer recalls its Vegetable Crispbake containing undeclared egg

Marks & Spencer is recalling its Vegetable Crispbake with a ‘use by’ date of 7 November 2015 because the product may contain a small quantity of egg, which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to egg.http//:www.tbds.co.uk

Asda Cheese Sauce Mix containing allergens mustard and wheat withdrawn

Asda has withdrawn certain pots of its Cheese Sauce Mix with a ‘best before’ end date of November 2016 because the pots contain a curry sauce mix. The incorrect label does not mention the presence of mustard and wheat. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard and/or wheat or an intolerance to gluten.
